Werewolves, the shape shifters. The big, over-muscled, rough and tumble men. Who is forced to shift into a wolf at the peak of the lunar cycle, the full moon, until dawn breaks. One whose bite will change another into an animal, dangerous and lusting for blood. They are given animalistic qualities, are rude and crude, and enjoy picking fights. Steel is their bane, while nothing else can kill them.
Let’s get the real story.
How is a werewolf "created"? Well, they can be born, between two werewolves or a werewolf and a human. Those are the more common of the werewolves. Then, you have the actual "created" werewolf. They were bitten by a werewolf and not killed. A poison is in the jaws of a werewolf, it stimulates a change in the body, encrypting the body with the DNA of a werewolf. No one knows how it is done, for no one has been able to study it. However, this poison also does a hell of amount of damage on a vampire. If the poison gets into the blood of a vampire, it can cause pain. The more poison, the more painful it becomes. Now, if a werewolf manages to cling onto a vampires arm for about a minute, injecting poison the whole time, that vampire is probably going to die from the poison. Anything short of that should see them alive.
A werewolf is forced to change on the night of the full moon, this is true. But, they draw their power from the moon, so the closer to the full moon it becomes, the stronger they are, and the more often they can shift. On the night of the new moon, their powers are greatly diminished, though they are still stronger than your average human, and they are unable to shift at all. When the moon starts showing itself in the sky again, they gain their powers back, and the cycle continues. When they are in their human form, they may be slightly more muscled, but that is not always the case. As a vampire can be extremely thin and have great strength, this is also the same for werewolves. A werewolf is not limited to only males, so don’t be surprised to see a female shift.
Werewolves don't drink blood like the vampires. Sure, they've been known to kill, but it isn't because they need the blood to live. No, they do it for the blood lust, the thrill of the kill. It's an animal instinct, completely predatory when they kill. It takes control to control the animal instincts, so one must be careful or else you'll end up taking a life. New werewolves - ones that were bitten - can be known to kill without being able to control themselves during the early stages.
Werewolves have a specific chain of command. There is the leader – the Alpha – and the second in command – the Beta. The Alpha and Beta do not have to be mates, they are just leaders together. If the Alpha were to die or be killed, the Beta would take his or her place, choosing a new Beta. If both were to be slain, the pack will choose their new Alpha, who will then pick the Beta. After the Beta, there is only the members of the pack, who follow the law of their Alpha. The Beta helps enforce these laws when the Alpha is busy, or is away on other business.
The item that kills a werewolf is different from that from a vampire. Sure, you have the classic burning, tearing apart, and staking of a vampire, but if you’ve noticed, this works on humans too. So, how does one kill a werewolf? Silver is said to kill them, and this is the truth. Steel will hurt them pretty badly, but steel is the most effective way to kill them. No one knows exactly how silver does it, but some of the more science oriented Hunters have said that it is a chemical reaction that goes wrong in their body. Whatever it is, it does the job just nicely, and that’s all that matters to the Hunters.
